Mission Library needs Reading Buddies
Interested in helping others read?
Mission Library is looking for adult volunteers to assist with their Reading Buddies program, a cooperative program between the library and Mission Literacy in Motion. This program aims to help children who are struggling with reading to improve their confidence and skill level through weekly practice sessions.
Reading Buddies is an after-school program that runs from September to June. Reading Buddies pairs high school students and other interested adults with children in Grades 1-4 who need extra help. Buddies meet weekly to practice reading, play literacy-based games and use library materials to help foster a love of reading. An orientation is held for all potential big buddies and the coordinator is available to answer any questions.
If you are interested in spending one hour per week to help, ask for a form at the information desk in Mission Library, 33247 Second Ave. The Reading Buddies Coordinator will contact you. For more information, call 604-826-6610.
