One hundred Mission property owners are being recognized for their neighborhood beautification efforts through the annual Streetscapes Challenge.

Under the leadership of Mission Communities in Bloom, the annual streetscapes program sends out several teams of trained and impartial street view judges to tour Mission.

“We have eight cars with judges in them, driving through all the streets looking for homes with a wow factor,” explained Bert Pulles, a long-time member of Communities in Bloom.

Registration is not required and properties may be residential, commercial, or places of worship. The top 100 examples of property frontages that show the best visual wow factor will receive a Streetscapes Recognition 2017 certificate plus a commemorative garden ornament.

“We want to recognize these people for all their hard work,” Pulles said.

Each of this year’s winning property owners will also be included in the Streetscapes 2017 Winners’ Prize Draw, and will be invited to a special recognition showcase event on Thursday, July 6 at the Mission Leisure Centre, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Also at that event will be numerous community representatives and two visiting judges from Communities in Bloom Canada.

Those judges will tour Mission and examine every aspect of the community – residential, business and civic. The evaluation categories include tidiness, heritage conservation, floral displays, landscape, urban forestry and environmental action.
