The Spirit Abreast dragon boat team recently celebrated the Abreast in a Boat Paddle Party at Cultus Lake.

A local dragon boat team with members from Mission recently celebrated the International Breast Cancer Paddlers Commission's 20th year.

The Spirit Abreast team, after a recent practice on Cultus Lake, joined the Abreast in a Boat Paddle Party by using a pink ribbon to link their paddles.

Dragon boat teams throughout the world joined in the celebration.

The Spirit Abreast team then participated in the Cultus Lake Days Parade, where they were joined by the Atchelitz Threshermen's Association with a pink tractor to raise awareness for cancer research.

The team handed out pink balloons and manned a table to connect with breast cancer survivors who would like to join them.

The squad is the Fraser Valley's only breast cancer survivor team.

For more information about Spirit Abreast, contact captain Cathy Terpstra at 778-808-6937.

The next practices are on June 18 and 22.
