Long-term Inmates Now in the Community

Mission's Glen Flett and Abbotsford's Misty Cockerill are speaking at a free public forum Thursday night on Grounded in the Ground in Mission.

This initiative sees Long-term Inmates Now in the Community (LINC), co-founded by Flett, bring offenders to the Mission Soapbox Community Organic Garden to help them gain first-hand experience growing and managing a garden. They learn record keeping, marketing, public communication, education and how to go from seed to sale.

Some of the vegetables grown in the plots — located immediately north of the Leisure Centre — are given to local non-profits and sold at the Mission Farmers' Market to help fund a peer-support group for survivors of homicide in Abbotsford, lead by Cockerill.

The forum runs from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Leisure Centre gym, 7650 Grand St. For more information call Sherry at 604-820-1015, or send an e-mail to seflett@telus.net.
