The Mission Garden Club’s annual plant sale will take place on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, located at 32550 7th Ave.

At the sale, seasoned gardeners and beginners alike will find plants to suit every area of interest and level of experience. The plant sale committee collects perennials, annuals, shrubs and trees and edibles – including vegetables, herbs and fruits – most of which are donated by club members.

Members provide a wide variety of flowering plants, some of which may not be commonly found in local nurseries.

If you have plants you would like to donate for the sale, contact the committee for pickup at: missiongardenclub.plantsale@gmail.com.

The plant sale is made possible by a team of highly-committed volunteers who strive to add new levels of interest each year.

According to organizers, a raffle will be held which ensures that some lucky individuals will win a special gardening item which differs annually but is always a hit.

Last year was the first time the club offered hanging baskets by pre-sale, which proved to be a very popular item. This year the club is offering the same pre-order service from DeVry Greenhouses, but also will have some of these products available at the sale.

Mission Garden Club is a not-for-profit group that has been an active community organization for decades.

The annual plant sale is its primary fundraiser and enables the club to bring speakers to the larger community to share their gardening knowledge. One of the Club’s primary goals is to encourage the interest and development of new gardeners in the community. The members enjoy discussing everything garden-related and love to share information.

Garden club meetings are open to everyone and are held at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Cedar St.

During the summer months (June-Aug), rather than holding meetings, garden club members are invited to tour the gardens of other members where they also enjoy coffee and treats. Other special garden events are held between spring and fall.
