First Avenue will light up this month with an outdoor display capturing the character of downtown Mission.

The light display was ignited for the first time last year during the Shine Bright Mission event. Over 7,000 people attended the street party.

“This year, while there will not be a large-scale event, there will be plenty to see and do in downtown Mission with local businesses adding that extra sparkle with specially crafted Shine Bright offerings,” the City of Mission said in a news release.

From March 1 to March 31, lights will turn on nightly starting at dusk.

“It is wonderful to see the lights up again on First Avenue,” said Mission Mayor Paul Horn in the news release. “These lights are an invitation to visit our downtown and to enjoy our welcoming and warm community.”

The four-foot custom light displays represent different aspects of Mission including representations of mountains, Mission Raceway Park, the railway bridge, local First Nations, and the Sikh temple. The designs were created in consultation with community groups.

A list of participating businesses and a walking tour map is available on the Tourism Mission website.
