A long-time Mission resident who quietly served her community continued to do her part even when she passed away last year.
The late Carolyn Edmonds left behind $40,000 to the Mission Healthcare Auxiliary, a group she had served for 35 years. Edmonds served in various positions on the executive, including president, and worked right up to a week or so before her death in December 2011. In the past few years she had to give up her shifts at Reception due to her loss of vision and arthritic pain, but still carried on at home phoning members for the next meeting and any other announcements.
During her years in Mission, Edmonds’ generosity was non-stop. She had been a constant contributor to Transition House, the Mission Hospice Society and donated funds to Mission Community Foundation Hospice fund; she was a Life Member of Hospice. She volunteered at a number of local charities, the Hospice Christmas Tree of Remembrance shifts at Safeway’s or Save On Foods each Christmas; the Cancer Daffodil Days when daffodils were sold outside those stores; she undertook to supply food, including a turkey, toys, clothing and a Christmas tree for a needy family each year.
The funds Edmonds left behind for the auxiliary will be used towards the new building for Complex Care at Mission Memorial Hospital in her memory.
