A man yelled and refused to pay his dinner bill at a downtown Mission restaurant last Wednesday (March 6).

Staff for the First Avenue restaurant called police in the evening after a man was swearing at staff and refusing to settle up.

Upon arrival, Mission RCMP recognized the man as a prolific offender who sporadically comes to Mission and has a history of similar incidents, according to the detachment’s weekly “Community Connection” crime recap.

The man was arrested despite resistance and taken to the Mission detachment. Police say he has dozens of criminal convictions.

“In the end, the man did not pay his bill and is being investigated for charges including fraudulently obtaining food,” Mission RCMP said in the crime recap.

The restaurant incident was one of 248 calls for service for Mission RCMP last week (March 4-10).

Officers also attended cell phone thefts at Mission Leisure Centre.

Three cell phones were stolen from the locker rooms on Friday morning (March 8). The thefts occurred while the phone owners were playing hockey.

Mission RCMP are investigating and asking anyone with information to contact police at 604-826-7161.

Meanwhile, a man was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound after failing a roadside screening test on Saturday (March 9) at 1 a.m.

An officer driving along Hayward Street spotted an SUV travelling in the opposite direction at a high speed.

Police turned around to pull it over when the SUV went off the road and into a ditch. The officer helped the driver out of the wreck and noticed multiple signs of impairment by liquor.

No one was injured as a result of the crash.
