Federal program to create jobs for Mission students
Mission's federal representative in parliament has announced the expansion of a jobs program aimed at helping local employers hire students during the summer.
MP Randy Kamp said employers can log on to www.randykamp.com, click on the Canada Summer Jobs banner and download an application to receive federal funding aimed at hiring students.
Funding will be available for not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses to create summer jobs for full-time students aged 15 to 30 years who intend to return to their studies in September.
Employers who need more information can call 1-800-935-5555 or visit any Service Canada Centre. The application deadline is Feb. 29.
The federal government increased the Canada Summer Jobs program by $10 million in 2011 as part of its larger ongoing stimulus plan for the economy.
