The District of Mission has approved a new five-year lease for the Fraser House Society at a rate of $1 per year.

The current agreement expired at the start of 2013. The Fraser House Society has been located at at 33063 Fourth Ave. for 45 years. The house, which is under contract from Fraser Health Authority, provides substance abuse counselling and prevention services to local residents through its out-patient clinic, as well as youth and family services, school-based prevention programs and rural connections program.

The society is responsible for the day-to-day repairs and general maintenance of the interior of the home.

BC Assessment

The BC Assessment Authority's Ramaish Shah presented the 2013 property assessment report to council last week.

Assessments are based on properties' market values as of July 1 each year, said Shah. A final look is taken Oct. 31 to see if there have been zoning changes, or any new construction or upgrades.

In Mission, overall values for 2013 remained relatively flat. Stratas have seen values range from a two per cent drop in some areas while increasing in value by two per cent in others.

Single-family dwellings weren't far off, dropping between one per cent to rising by three per cent, based on location. Both commercial and industrial land rose by as much as five per cent in Mission, while land under development remained static.

In total, property values for residential homes in 2013 sits at $4.57 billion, up from $4.51 billion in 2012. Business properties also jumped in 2013, up to $398 million in assessments, compared to $376.6 million in 2012. Overall, Shah said values in the district rose $800,000 from 2012 to $5.08 billion.

"We're an organization that's very open," said Shah, noting that anyone can get access to their own property assessment and compare it to those in the neighbourhood.
