Mission ridings draw 11 candidates

There are officially 11 candidates running in Mission’s two provincial ridings after nominations closed on Friday, April 26.

Residents living in the Abbotsford-Mission riding, which is described roughly as an area east of Cedar Street to Lake Errock, and from Ferndale Avenue in the north to Abbotsford, have seven people from whom to choose.

Running in this riding are Simon Gibson (BC Liberal), Preet Rai (BC NDP), Aird Flavelle (BC Green), Don Stahl (BC Conservative), Marcus Halliday (BC Excalibur), Wendy Bales (Independent), and Roman Bojczuk (Independent).

There are four candidates in the Maple Ridge-Mission riding, which encompasses west of Cedar Street in Mission to 224 Street in Maple Ridge and from the Fraser River to Alouette Lake in the north.

Running for the MLA seat there are Mike Bocking (BC NDP), incumbent Marc Dalton (BC Liberal), Alex Pope (BC Green), and Chad Thompson (BC Conservative).

There are 19 parties and 376 candidates running in the May 14 election. The NDP and Liberals are the only parties running candidates in every riding (85). The Green Party has 61 names, and the BC Conservative Party has 56.

An all-candidates meeting for those running in Mission’s ridings is being held May 9 at the Best Western on Lougheed Highway, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

McConnell Creek Farmers Hall is holding an all-candidates meeting for the Abbotsford-Mission riding on May 6 at 7 p.m. The hall is located at 35483  Hartley Rd.
