Contraband seized at Ferndale

Between $5,000 and $7,000 worth of contraband was seized from a Ferndale inmate on Oct. 10 around 10:30 p.m.

Correctional officers, with help from Mission RCMP, intercepted the unauthorized items, including 2.3 kilograms of tobacco. The Correctional Service of Canada introduced a complete smoking ban in all federal correctional institutions in 2008. Ferndale is a minimum security federal institution.
