Mission survey shows strong support for two-week spring break
Mission Public Schools may implement a two-week spring break after a survey indicated 84.3 per cent of respondents were in favour.
The survey was conducted district-wide, and 582 people responded. Fifty-four per cent of the respondents were parents, 20.5 per cent were teachers, 14.3 per cent were students, and the remainder were community members, CUPE staff, principals and vice-principals and other exempt staff.
The survey also showed 81.6 per cent in favour of adding minutes to the school day to "make up the time in alignment with neighbouring school districts."
According to an information item to the board of education from the education committee, staff is developing a draft school calendar that will be presented at the next education committee meeting for review. Agreements must also be secured with union partner groups before sending the calendar to the Ministry of Education.
