UPDATED: Human bones found at Mission recreational site
The coroner’s office is still working on identifying the human remains found near the Hayward Lake Recreational Site more than two weeks ago.
Sometimes IDs can be made in as few as three days, but some cases can take years, said Barb McLintock, from the BC Coroners Service.
She says her office is “getting closer” to determining who the remains belong to.
“When we’re making identifications, we need to be sure beyond a reasonable doubt,” she said.
The partial skeletal remains were found on May 12 around 3:50 p.m. by a hiker who thought he heard a lost dog and went looking for it, according to Mission RCMP.
Instead, the hiker located the remains in a densely wooded area.
Mission RCMP Sgt. Shaun Wright said there’s no indication of foul play at this time.
