The skeletal remains found near Hayward Lake in May have been identified as those belonging to Mission resident Laura Pesek.

The BC Coroners Service confirmed the identity Wednesday afternoon.

Pesek was reported missing on May 4, 2013 after she left her home in the area of Dewdney Trunk Road and Pilgrim Street to go to the store.

Police at the time said her disappearance was not normal and feared she could be suffering from a medical condition. A search by police and search and rescue did not turn up any signs of the missing woman.

Forestry workers in the Hayward Lake area found the skeletal remains in a heavily wooded area on May 12, 2014.

Foul play has been ruled out and the BCCS is still investigating the death.

"The family of Ms. Pesek has been notified of her death," states Barb McLintock of BCCS. "On behalf of the family, the BCCS asks that media respect their privacy at this difficult time."
