Arsh Dhaliwal has announced he will be running for a spot on Mission’s city council.

Dhaliwal was born and raised in Mission – the youngest son of immigrant parents.

He completed his master’s degree specializing in banking and finance law at the University of London, following an undergraduate degree in justice studies.

He said being the youngest has taught him that if you want to be heard, you have to make noise – this is the same energy he intends to bring as an advocate for the community.

“I want to ensure the people of Mission’s voices hold weight,” Dhaliwal said.

Dhaliwal grew up heavily involved in athletics, playing basketball and football for Mission Secondary School.

He won a scholarship to play football, though an injury forced him to switch his focus to his education.

“Growing up in Mission I received a lot of support from my family, and coaches. It certainly helped lay a foundation that allows me to persevere no matter what the challenge is,” Dhaliwal said.

He said he will bring “energy and fresh ideas” to council, and lead by way of his “values and morals.”

Dhaliwal said he takes pride in being a man of integrity.

“Transparency and accountability are of the utmost importance to me.”
