Clemo earns municipality's top honour

Missionites' service to the community to be recognized April 27

The names of this year's Mission Volunteer Appreciation and Community Service Award recipients have been released.

Claire Clemo will receive the district's top honour as Freeman of the City. She has dedicated many years to serving her community.

Elyssa Lockhart will receive the Citizen of the Year Award in recognition of her work advocating the Fraser River as a transportation system, and her efforts with the Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Lifetime Achievement Awards will be given to the Mission Arts Council in recognition of 40 years spent in development of arts and culture, and Barbara Fehrmann, who has dedicated many years to community service. Some of the groups she is involved with are Fraser River Heritage Park, Business and Professional Women's Club of Mission and Mission Association for Seniors Housing.

Arts and Culture Service Awards go to Jan Garner, Joy Vox Community Choir, and Mission Friends of the Library.

Community Service Award recipients are James (Jimmy) Logan, William McDonald, Rhett Nicholson, Heidi Smith, Tamara Throssell, Gorilla Gardeners, and Mission Adopt-A-Block Society.

Damon and Crystal Matkovich and Noreen Wright will receive the Sports Volunteer of the Year Award, and Eshona Debaat will take the Against the Odds Achievement Award.

Mission's Citizen's Patrol will be recognized with the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Award.

The award ceremony will be held April 27 at the Leisure Centre gymnasium.
