BC Transit is looking to double weekend service on the Fraser Valley Express bus between Chilliwack, Abbotsford and Langley.

The service – which has stops in Abbotsford at the McCallum Park and Ride and at Highstreet, and which continues to the Langley Park and Ride and bus exchange on 200th Street – currently runs four times a day in each direction.

Ridership has grown continuously since the service was launched in April 2015. Sunday and holiday service were introduced last September.

The bus currently runs 13 times on weekdays. Buses arrive in Langley 69 minutes after leaving Chilliwack, and 34 minutes after departing from the McCallum Park and Ride.

When first suggested last year, the cost of the move was pegged at around $80,000. Abbotsford, Chilliwack and the province split funding for the service.

BC Transit is looking to collect public feedback on potential schedule times through an online survey. It’s available at bctransit.com/central-fraser-valley, or at bctransit.com/chilliwack for Chilliwack residents.

The Fraser Valley Regional District reported last summer that further service expansions are being considered for subsequent years, although they require more detailed analysis by BC Transit and a cost is not yet known.

The service recorded 114,000 passenger trips in 2016/17, up 58 per cent from 72,000 the previous year. Figures from 2017/18 are not yet available.
