Jennifer Holmes said her first attempt at running for political office may not be her last.
The Green Party candidate in Abbotsford-Mission may not have been able to unseat incumbent Simon Gibson, but she did increase her party’s profile.
Last election, the Green Party received nine per cent of the vote in the riding, so far this election it is at 16 per cent.
“I think it’s an increase in awareness,” said Holmes.
She said the Greens have momentum and are leading in three ridings.
“We ran a really clean campaign, I think we gave people a choice and I think we gave people the ability to vote for something and not against something which is what has happened in B.C, politics for years. It’s so polarized,” said Holmes, adding that it’s good to see a third option.
And with the two main parties in a dead heat, Holmes said the Greens could hold the balance of power.
The only thing about the campaign that Holmes said disappointed her was the absence of the NDP candidate, Andrew Christie.
“I think if you are going to run, then you owe it to your constituents to come and talk to them and listen to their concerns.”
As for her political future, Holmes did not rule out running provincially again,but she may look elsewhere.
“Provincial politics aren’t the only politics around. There are other things to do to serve my community.”
