The Fraser Valley Human Dignity Coalition is going to host a meeting in response to recent Ku Klux Klan activity in Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack.
The gathering takes place on Oct. 19, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Abbotsford Community Services.
Coalition gatherings are open to all community members working or living in the Fraser Valley. The coalition wishes to welcome anyone in the Fraser Valley who has been negatively affected by these incidences.
On Monday, Oct. 3, residents of Mission and Abbotsford woke up to find a small package on their front lawns – allegedly from the Ku Klux Klan.
The package came in the form of a clear plastic bag containing a one page flyer and a small amount of rice.
The flyer indicates it is from the “Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan” and that “Yes! White Lives Do Matter.”
It contains more statements and includes a website and a “Klan Hotline” phone number.
In July of this year, residents in Chilliwack had the same packages delivered to their homes.
A press release from the coalition states “The recent activity of the white supremacy group, Ku Klux Klan invokes memories of racism, discrimination and hate.”
The coalition encourages those that were negatively affected by this incident or any other discriminatory incident to contact the coalition.
