Robert Koenig of Abbotsford has pleaded guilty to sending sexually explicit material to a 12-year-old girl in Utah.

An Abbotsford man who was charged after he posed online as a 15-year-old boy and shared pornographic images with a 12-year-old girl in Utah has pleaded guilty.

Robert Koenig, 25, recently issued the plea in Abbotsford provincial court on two charges – child luring and exposing a child to sexually explicit material.

Two other charges – possession of child pornography and importing or distributing child porn – are expected to be stayed at sentencing.

Koenig is next due back in court Jan. 2 to set a date for sentencing.

Koenig was charged in July 2015 following an investigation that began in December 2014.

The parents of a Utah girl found pornographic images and online correspondence from an alleged teen boy from Vancouver.

The investigation revealed that the suspect was actually from Abbotsford, and the major crime unit of the Abbotsford Police Department became involved.

A search warrant was then executed at Koenig’s home, and electronics were seized for forensic exam.

Koenig initially faced the two charges to which he has pleaded guilty, but an additional two charges were later added.

He was also charged in August of this year for breaching his bail conditions.

Terms of his bail include that he not contact anyone under 16 years old or not to be in public areas – such as parks, playground and recreation centres – where a person under the age of 16 is expected to be present.

He is also prohibited from using a computer to access pornography of any kind.
