The Mission Fire/Rescue Service (MFRS) will be conducting free smoke alarm assessments in the Hatzic, Stave Falls, Steelhead and Ruskin Trailer Court areas of Mission on July 25 and Aug. 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Firefighters will be going door to door offering valuable life-saving information, focusing on smoke alarms.

Smoke detectors save lives. It is recommended that you have a smoke detector installed on each level of your home and outside each sleeping area.

If your smoke detectors are battery-powered, check the batteries once a month and change them once a year. If your smoke alarm is nearing seven years old or more, it’s too old to be reliable and should be replaced, says MFRS.
