If you think you are strong enough to pull a fire truck, then grab nine friends and get ready to test your skills.
The third annual Mission Firefighters Fire Truck Pull Challenge is set for Saturday, July 15 in the Canadian Tire parking lot at the Junction Mall.
The event starts at 9 a.m.
Last year’s championship team from the North Fraser Volunteer Fire Department is returning to defend its title and try to win the trophy for the second straight year.
The competition pits co-ed teams of 10 people (teams can have two alternates) against one another in a race for the best time. A pair of teams compete simultaneously, and, when given the signal, the teams pull a fire truck 100 feet, using a rope affixed to the front of it.
Organizer Richard Collins said he’s hoping the event will continue to grow. More teams are still being recruited and can sign up by contacting the front desk of Mission Fire Department or Collins at 604-751–2986. Teams should be registered by June 30, but some late entries may be accepted. The fee to enter is $300.
“This is a fundraiser and 100 per cent of the proceeds go to support Muscular Dystrophy Canada,” said Collins.
There will be prizes for the team with the best time, the most money raised and the best team theme. All team members are encouraged to dress up.
Collins said this year’s event will also feature a two-storey bouncy castle and a dunk tank.
“All three chiefs are going to get dunked this year,” he said,
For the first time, there will also be an after party at The Stage in downtown Mission.
The $25 admission fee for adults includes three tacos.
“It’s a kid-friendly event as well,” Collins said.
Children five and older are $15 to get in.
