Mission Institution inmate dies

A 46-year-old man was found unresponsive in his Mission Institution cell Aug. 14, and died at Abbotsford Regional Hospital two days later.

Darcy Bertrand was serving an indeterminate sentence since 1996 for three counts of second-degree murder.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
