Mission RCMP Insp. Ted de Jager will be leaving Mission for a new job in Penticton.

Mission is about to lose its top cop.

According to a press release, issued on Feb. 1 by the City of Penticton, Mission RCMP Insp. Ted de Jager will be leaving his post in Mission and taking a new role as RCMP detachment commander of Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment.

The appointment was announced yesterday by RCMP National Headquarters. Brad Haugli, Commander of the B.C. RCMP’s Southeast District said, “It is a tremendous benefit to have Ted as the incoming Officer in Charge of Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment. His extensive operational background in a leadership role, along with his strong focus on Crime Reduction and community engagement, will certainly make him a perfect fit to meet the needs of the communities in the region.”

De Jager transferred to the Mission Detachment as the Officer in Charge in September of 2014 and focused on crime reduction and community engagement.

“We were looking for an officer moving up the ranks on his career path with a strong willingness to implement proactive and innovative strategies for crime reduction. Someone who will integrate into our community and deliver results,” said Penticton Mayor Andrew Jakubeit.

It has yet to be announced when de Jager will leave Mission, or who will replace him.
