Snow expected to start late Thursday evening in Abbotsford and Mission

Weather conditions will continue overnight and into Friday, says Environment Canada

The latest forecast from Environment Canada is calling for the predicted “intense snowstorm” to begin late this evening and to continue overnight into Friday morning.

About two to four centimetres of snow are expected late tonight in Abbotsford, with winds of up to 40 to 60 km/h that will diminish to 30 km/h after midnight.

The snow accumulation for tomorrow is expected to be five to 10 centimetres, and winds are expected to continue, resulting in blowing-snow conditions.

Temperatures are expected to remain steady at -3 or -4 degrees, with a wind chill of -15.

Continued clear skies are expected for most of today with increasing cloudiness and winds this afternoon.

Meanwhile, an Arctic outflow warning is in effect for areas east of Abbotsford.

Winds are expected to reach speeds of 50 to 70 km/h late this evening, with temperatures dropping to -9 and a wind chill of -20.

Snowfall accumulations similar to Abbotsford are expected in those areas.

Environment Canada states that strong easterly winds, combined with the snow, will caused “reduced visibilities” for drivers tonight and Friday morning.

More precipitation is on the way Saturday, but will likely fall as rain, and more flurries are possible on Sunday, the agency states.

“A return to cold sunny conditions is forecast for early next week as Arctic air will take a firm grip on southern B.C. More snow may come by the end of the week.”
