Two leadership teams from Mission Senior Secondary took first and third place at the Environmental Mind Grind competition on Saturday, while second spot went to Rick Hansen Secondary in Abbotsford.

The fifth annual trivia-based competition took place at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre in Abbotsford and was hosted by Abbotsford Mission Recycling.

The student teams competed against each other to answer questions focused on the environment. Students prepared for the competition by reviewing the material in the contest study guide.

The first place team received $1,500 to go towards an environmental initiative at their school. Previously, Mission Senior Secondary used their winnings to install a water bottle refill station at the school.

Second and third place received $500 and $250 respectively.

Abbotsford Mission Recycling – a program of Abbotsford Community Services – provides recycling services in partnership with the District of Mission and City of Abbotsford.

They offer an extensive public awareness program, which includes school education, community workshops, and a Recycling Education Centre.
