As the fire was raging through the Paddington Station condominiums in Langley City on Sunday, people began coming forward with donations.

Some people brought bottled water, blankets and hand-warmers to displaced residents of the building.

Others tried to drop off clothing and other supplies at the Douglas Recreation Centre, where many of the displaced residents had gone for assistance, only to be told by apologetic City staff that there just wasn't enough room.

Some came from as far away as Maple Ridge, only to leave without dropping off.

The Gateway of Hope shelter on  the Bypass announced on social media that it would accept donations, then called a halt due to the "overwhelming response."

The Gateway offices at 5787 Langley Bypass were still accepting cash donations.

Next to the scene of the fire, Zealous Art Studio owner Freda Lombard was inviting donors to drop off clothing and other supplies at a vacant store, donated by Michael Chia, the owner of ME shopping centre on Fraser Highway near 201A Street.

Donors can come by during the day at Suite #106 or phone Freda at 604-533-0490 to arrange drop-offs.

Southgate Church, located at 5501 203 St. in the nearby shopping mall where the Army and Navy Store is located, has already received $20,000 worth of donations and is scrambling to set up an online contribution system.

The Big Box Outlet Store donated $7500 in gift cards to the church which will be distributed to the victims once their needs are known.

Customline Homes, The Wrap Guys and Atlas Sign and Awning have also stepped up, the church said.

The church is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and donors can contact debbie@southgatechurch.ca or phone 604-220-8435.

There are several campaigns for individual residents of Paddington Station at gofundme.com, which can be located by searching the site for "Langley, BC" or "Paddington Station."

Westminster Savings is collecting donations to assist individuals and families displaced by the fire.

Donations can be made at any branch to account #333975101.

The credit union has also donated $5,000 to the Sources Community Resources Society.

The Langley City branch is located at 20831 Fraser Highway, Unit 1. To find a branch near you, visit www.wscu.com.

“Our thoughts are with our members and neighbours who have been impacted by this devastating situation, and our deepest thanks go out to the fire fighters, first responders and volunteers for their support for the affected families and individuals,” said Westminster Savings president Gavin Toy.
