Environment Canada has issued a warning of a rain storm expected to hit the Fraser Valley this weekend.

Fraser Valley residents are being warned to prepare for heavy rains over the next 24 hours, which could result in flooding.

An approaching system is expected to hit the coast this evening and continue inland, hitting Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack the hardest, with up to 50 mm of rain.

The system will remain over Abbotsford for most of Saturday, Environment Canada predicts.

Environment Canada expects the rain to taper off late Saturday morning as the front moves southward over the U.S. border.

"Residents are urged to clear leaves and other debris from their gutters and catch basins," a press release from Environment Canada states. "Property owners with ditches and culverts should also ensure they are clear of obstructions."
