Alexander CLARK

June 10, 2007

April 3, 1929 - June 10, 2007

On June 10, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer, Alexander Clark, our husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at Mission Hospice at the age of 78 years. Born in Trail, BC on April 3, 1929, Alex was raised in Nelson, BC where, as a youth, he excelled in team sports, particularly hockey and basketball. Alex's passion for athletics and education led him to obtain a degree in physical education from UBC and later a Master of Education from the U of M. While at UBC he met his lifetime soulmate, Joyce, of 55 years. Alex spent nine years serving as an officer in the Royal Canadian Artillery. In 1961 he began teaching high school in Selkirk, Manitoba and ended his 26 year teaching career at CFB Shilo, Manitoba. Alex derived great satisfaction from playing an important role in the educational development of all children. Coaching school sports and mentoring students allowed him to make a profound difference in many youths' lives. Alex never considered his work "overtime", he loved what he did. A dream for Alex was to retire in BC, his native province. In 1987 Alex and Joyce moved to Abbotsford where he enjoyed 20 years of retirement with Joyce – travelling, attending Dixieland festivals, dancing, golfing, curling and playing bridge. Family was all important to Alex. He was never too busy to offer encouragement and supportive advice. Alex possessed a unique sense of humor and our family enjoyed countless happy times listening to his stories salted with his situational wit.

Alex leaves to mourn his passing his wife Joyce, sons: Scott, Stu (Janice), Max (Linden); and daughter Karen (John); as well as nine grandchildren; his sister Margaret and many friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Karen Clark, in May, 2006. We will all miss you Dad! YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE!

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alex's memory will be gratefully accepted by the Christine Morrison Hospice, c/o Mission Memorial Hospital, 7324 Hurd St., Mission, BC V2V 3H5. A private family service will be held at a later date.
