BOQUIST, ALGOT "AL"

July 18, 1918 - July 14, 2008

Al passed away peacefully at MSA Hospital 4 days before his 90th birthday, with his wife and daughters by his side. Al is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Elizabeth (Betty), daughters Marilyn and Beverly (Ken), granddaughters Kerri (Scott), Nicole (Bill), grandson J.J. (Michele), great grandson’s Kris and Shayne, and many nieces and nephews. Al is survived by his sister Gertie DuCharme. Al was born and raised on the family farm in Inwood, Manitoba, the 11th of 13 children, and later worked in the gold mines in Atlin B.C. Al joined the army and proudly served in WWll with the Provost Corp. (Military Police), and later received his discharge in 1946. Al married Betty the same year and started his apprenticeship in the foundry in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and later welcomed their first daughter Marilyn in 1948. The family moved to Vancouver in 1951, and their second daughter Beverly was born in 1956. The family then moved to Coquitlam in 1959. In 1972 Al and Betty built a cabin on Stave Lake, where they spent many enjoyable weekends and holidays with family and friends. Upon retiring in 1991 at the age of 65, in Mission B.C. they sold the cabin and purchased a motorhome, which enabled them to travel across country visiting family and friends. One special trip was going home to Inwood, Manitoba for the Centennial Celebration. Al’s love for the Northern Country of B.C. brought him back to Atlin every summer for 12 years, where he would fish and visit with his old friends. Al spent many hours with his dog Heidi, who traveled everywhere with him. Al took up woodworking after retirement as a hobby, and became a wonderful carpenter. Family and friends still have the beautiful wood pieces to cherish him by. Al loved life, and lived it to the fullest, he knew how to throw a great party, and loved to dance. Al will be sadly missed and never forgotten by his family and many friends. The family would like to thank the staff at MSA Hospital in Abbotsford B.C. for their professional and caring support. The family is hosting a luncheon in Al’s memory on Saturday August 16th 2008 from 12-3pm at the Royal Canadian Legion lounge at 12101-224th street in Maple Ridge, B.C. Donations to be made to the B.C. Lung Association

Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.
