KINGMA

Alice Kingma (nee Bosch)

Feb. 19, 1916 - Nov.4 2008

Alice passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord Nov. 4, 2008 at the age of 92. She is survived by her loving children Jake (Magda) Kingma, Alice Kammeraad, Sid (Jeanette) Kingma, Haike Kingma, Florence (George) Boer, Peter (Sherry) Kingma, Pearl (Matt) Peters, Martin (Barbel) Jurrius, twenty nine grandchildren, fifty five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Alice was born in Huntum, Friesland, The Netherlands in 1916. She married her loving husband Jake on May 22, 1939. She immigrated to Canada with her husband and six children in 1951. She and her husband settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba where they had two more children. They spent sixteen years there with their wonderful immigrant friends and relatives before moving, as a family, to Abbotsford B.C., in 1967. Here she settled with her husband and children to enjoy the gorgeous scenery of the Fraser Valley. They again set up Jake's Barber Shop in downtown Abbotsford, as they had in Winnipeg and Friesland. When her husband retired, she spent some relaxing years on the shores of B.C.'s lakes and rivers reading and knitting and making coffee while Jake fished. As the years went by the family grew and grew and she was always there enjoying every moment with her children and grandchildren. In 1997 Jake passed away at 81 years of age, leaving Alice to make it on her own for 11 years. She spend the last 4 years of her life being well cared for in Ebenezer Home, where she received the nickname "Special K".

During Alice's lifetime she enjoyed bible studies, coffee times with her children and friends and volunteer work with the mentally challenged adult women of Bakerview Home. She exercised hospitality, she was a prayer warrior, an encourager and a peace maker. She taught her children to love one another, forgive one another and live in harmony together. She loved the Lord with all her heart and demonstrated this by her gifts, service and actions. Jesus love shone through in her all she did and said. She was a very little lady, with a really big heart and a great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her loving family.

Alice was predeceased by her daughter Grace Jurrius, her loving husband Jake Kingma and her sons in law Tom Dotinga, Peter Kammeraad and Dan Ronhaar.

Funeral service for Alice Kingma will be held Friday, Nov. 7 at 11:00 a.m at the Trinity Christian Reformed church on Trethewey St., Abbotsford. Viewing will be held prior to the service, 10:00-11:00 in the Fireside Room, interment at Hazelwood Cemetery following the service. Please join the family for refreshments at the church following the interment.
