Ellen Noreen Spence (nee DeLair)


Noreen passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on May 2nd, 2017 in Abbotsford with family by her side and following many hugs and kisses from three generations who loved her dearly. She was born in Abbotsford on September 24th, 1925 to Tom and Daisy DeLair, the eldest of nine children born to the pioneer DeLair family. After Noreen's marriage to Hugh Spence in 1948, they moved to Calgary then Red Deer where they raised their family until 1970 when they returned to BC to reside in North Vancouver, Langley and finally Abbotsford. Over the years Noreen was an avid golfer, curler, bridge player, talented knitter and seamstress, a long time member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a fabulous cook. Predeceased by her husband Hugh, son Jim and three of her sisters, Noreen will be lovingly remembered and missed by her three children, Terry Crowe (Dennis), Ron Spence (Arlene) and Judy Kramer (Dennis). Nana will be greatly missed by her six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her three brothers Jack, Ron, and Gordon DeLair and two sisters Audrey Smorenburg and Wendy Giesbrecht as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Worthington Pavilion for the kind and loving care that Noreen received while residing there, especially during her final days. At Noreen's request there will be no funeral service. Following cremation a private family ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation specifying Worthington Pavilion.
