KOKOSKA; Francis Ruby
1923 – 2016
Ruby Kokoska of Mission, BC passed away on December 9, 2016 at the age of 93 years. Born November 18, 1923 in Stettler, Alberta to Frank and Alice Retzler, Ruby moved to the Fraser Valley as a young woman where she met and married her husband Frank. Together they raised eight children in Hatzic Prairie. While Frank worked in construction, Ruby tended her large vegetable garden and her family. When her family was grown, Ruby used her superb cooking skills at Rancho Catering in Abbotsford. Musically inclined, Ruby played the harmonica, guitar, and accordion. In early years, her guitar music could be heard drifting across the valley on a warm summer night.
Rest in peace Mom. You are loved and will be greatly missed.
Ruby is survived by her sister Faye Weatherly, daughters; Linda Claridge and Shelley Hammerstein (George), sons; Stan (Terri), Greg, Doug (Kim), Brent (Penny), and Neil (Irma), thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ruby is predeceased by her husband Frank, son Ken, and her siblings Dorothy Steeves, Bob Retzler, and Marie Freimuth. As per Ruby’s request, a memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
