ALLAN; Grace Ernestine (nee Summers)

October 27, 1923 ~ September 1, 2016

We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Grace Ernestine Allan, on September 1, 2016. A Celebration of Ernestine's life will take place at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 33911 Hazelwood Avenue, Abbotsford, BC, with the Rev. Dr. Blair Bertrand and the Rev. Jim Smith officiating. The Rev. David Hayward will present the eulogy. Ernestine lived a full and abundantly creative life and will be dearly missed. Her significant presence and contribution to the Greater Vancouver Weavers and Spinners Guild, the Royal Canadian College of Organists, Central Presbyterian Church in Vancouver, The Vancouver Opera Association, The Women's Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, and the PBS Knowledge Network of BC earned her many friends and accolades. Ernestine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a dear friend to Elizabeth, and a faithful hospital visitor of family and friends gained along the way. She offered her warmth and support with a quiet and competent manner without reservation to all she met.

Ernestine was predeceased by her infant elder brother James Henry Summers, her parents Ernest and Jennie Summers, and by her husband of fifty-two years, the Rev. John N.M. Allan. Ernestine is survived by her only son, Grant (Margaret), three granddaughters, Katherine, Jennifer (William) and Heather, and three great grandchildren, Grant, Gwenyth, and Jonathan. She is also survived by her cousin Ruby (David) and their family, and by her sister-in-law, Jeanie and her family. The family would sincerely like to thank the staff at Menno Home for the loving care Ernestine received there, and Dr. Richard Egolf for his attentive care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ernestine's memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford. Remembrances of Ernestine would be dearly appreciated by her family at emus@shaw.ca.
