Jean KOLTHAMMER

April 7, 2006

Jean, a long time resident of Delta, passed away on April 7, 2006. Born April 25, 1924 in Edmonton, AB to Dr. George and Elizabeth Kelman, she was raised in Fernie, BC. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Kenneth William in 2002. Jean graduated from the VGH School of Nursing in 1946. She was looking forward to the boat cruise with her classmates, planned for May, celebrating their 60th reunion. Although her formal nursing career was short, Jean spent her life serving others. She was prompted by the activities of her children and husband to volunteer in many organizations from Girl Guides to Engineers' Wives. Jean enjoyed entertaining and being entertained. It warmed her heart to create kitchen masterpieces for family and friends. She loved to travel to any corner of the world, and saw much of it. Ken and Jean took great delight in attending many musical, dramatic, and sporting events throughout the lower mainland.

In the past seven years Jean has had the opportunity to have returned to her the care she offered to others her whole life. The doctors and support staff at the VGH Spinal Unit, the Delta Hospital, and, in her final hours, the Peace Arch Hospital, were the angels of mercy in her hours of need.

Jean is survived by her sister Mary Murray of Vancouver; three daughters, Jan (Bill) Rikoff of Kamloops, Sue (Tim) Whalley of Kamloops, Margaret Kolthammer of Abbotsford; one son, Brian (Jennifer) or Lake Jackson, TX; seven grandchildren: Michael (Patti) Rilkoff, Karyn (Jon) Jones; Erin Whalley, Adam Whalley; Jeff (Stacey) Kolthammer, Steven Kolthammer, and Joseph Kolthammer; and two great grandchildren, Maeya Sky Jones and Carver Allan Rilkoff. In the spirit of helping others, Jean gave to the Salvation Army and the Union Gospel Mission.

In memory of Jean, please support the charity of your choice.
