John Donald Dawson of Mission, B.C., passed way this October 28, 2017 at the age 74.

John is survived by his two sisters, Flo and Jean, and his nieces Kenna (Gary) and Diana (Will).

John and his sisters grew up in Vancouver, B.C., raised by their dear mother, Isabella Donald Dawson after their father, John James Dawson, passed away when John was very young.

John is fondly remembered as an independent and caring brother and uncle and as a good friend and neighbour. John had a lifelong interest in everything electronic. He became a medical electronics technologist, working at St Paul's Hospital and then Lions Gate Hospital; and he was an avid collector of antique radios and an early adopter of computer technology.

When not at work, John enjoyed getting away from the big city into remote parts of BC and always had his beloved dogs at his side.

In 2001 John retired to Mission where he quickly became part of the community and contributed to it through volunteer work and membership in the local Rotary and Kinsmen clubs. In 2003 and 2005, he participated in a Rotary project in Uganda where he conducted medical equipment repairs and trained local staff.

Later in life, John bravely faced a number of health challenges including Parkinson's disease and fiercely maintained his independence to the end.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of British Columbia.
