August 15, 2006

March 5, 1948 - August 15, 2006

Judy died of cancer in the Christine Morrison Hospice Unit of the Mission Memorial Hospital on August 15, 2006 at the age of 58 years. Judy was born in Edmonton, Alberta. She is survived by her beloved husband, Andy, her dog Stella, parents Elsie & Ray Galer, brothers Jerry, Ken (Paulette), nephews Olen and Liam, niece Kristen (Mark) and great-nephew Isak, and family in Holland.

Judy was known to her family and friends as someone who enjoyed life to the fullest. Her motto was "Learn from yesterday, Live for today and Hope for tomorrow". She and Andy loved to travel and over the years experienced the Americas, Europe and Africa. Judy was a terrific cook and her health unit co-workers benefited from her mouth-watering creations. Along with cooking, Judy also enjoyed reading and playing bridge.

Judy was an RN Graduate of Vancouver General Hospital in 1969 and worked as a head nurse in that location in the plastics and open heart surgery wards in the 1970's. Later on she became a Home Care Nurse in Vancouver in the early 80's.

Andy and Judy moved to Mission to live on a farm and after a few years went to work in the Mission Health Unit as a home care nurse in 1988 until she retired in 2004.

Andy would like to thank the community health care workers, Dr. Potter and the Palliative Care Team, as well as Dr. Pomeroy and Dr. Welsh and Raydene Erickson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 19, at her home, #34, 32339 - 7th Avenue, Mission, BC.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Pat Whitehead Books for Children Fund in care of the Mission Health Unit, 32618 Logan Avenue, Mission, BC, Canada V2V 6C7.
