STEWART Melvin Bears. March 21, 1925 ~ March 28, 2012. Another pioneer has passed away quietly with Audrey Campbell, his son Newton, daughter Linda and granddaughter Laura by his side. He is survived by his 3 children; Newton, Linda (Mike), Allan (Anne), his son-in-law Wesley Janzen, 5 granddaughters; Carrie (Darren), Angela (Bill), Amanda (Adam), Laura (Mike) and Alanna and 3 great grandchildren: Jordan, Justen and Avalyn. Melvin was born and raised on Sumas Prairie where he married Colleen Menagh and together had five children. In the early 1950's Melvin researched and pioneered the way for the first refrigerated milk trucks into Canada; thus allowing the farm dairy milk to be refrigerated when transported to the Plant. He farmed the Stewart Farm until the early sixties (now known as Birchwood Dairies). He then moved to Vancouver, joined the Operating Engineers Union and spent many years operating Heavy Equipment and then as a Consultant. He retired and returned to Abbotsford to pursue his joy of travelling. Melvin will be greatly missed but not forgotten. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring, compassionate, thoughtful nurses of the Emergency Decision Making Unit of the Abbotsford Hospital. No service by request.
