Paul Douglas
Paul was born on February 9, 1954 in Stonewall Manitoba on the Stony Mountain Penitentiary Reserve where his father worked as a Correctional Officer. After a brave and dignified two year battle with cancer, Paul passed away peacefully at home in Chilliwack with his family. Paul now Âwatches over his wife, Christine, their children, Jason, Alexis, Cameron and Mitchell, his closest family, Âsister Peach and her husband Ken Fletcher, their sons Ryan and Eric and their growing families, our dearest friends J and Dawn LaNelle, as well as his Âbrothers Ron, Dave, Danny, Mark and Mel.
Paul followed in his father’s footsteps entering into Corrections in 1984 and has worked as a Living Unit Officer, Case Management Officer, Parole Officer, Staff Training Instructor, as well Coordinator Case Management and Unit Manager on occasion. Paul has trained Crown Counsel and RCM Police and was passionate and dedicated to his work. Paul finished his career in Corrections as a Therapist working with sex offenders and is highly respected by his peers and the men in his groups. Paul was forced to fight for his children for over five long years and became active in fighting for children’s and father’s rights to “shared parenting” after divorce, doing TV and radio shows as well as opening our phone as a support line for those who “lost” their children in an antiquated Court system. Paul’s battle to be the father he always wanted to be was realized but ironically, it was that which took its toll on his health.
The family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to Dr. G. Collingridge, Dr. K. Evans, Dr. N. Hilliard and his staff, the staff at Chilliwack General Hospital, VGH, Surrey Memorial, and MSA, Dr. K. Jasas and Dr. M. Po from the Fraser Valley Cancer Clinic, all the nurses and staff in the chemo room and radiation, Gerry Ayotte and Major Angus Haggarty, the Home Support nurses and the Palliative Care Team who all helped us keep Paul at home where he most wanted to be.
Paul was generous and charitable and in lieu of flowers, would be honored to have donations to the BC Cancer Foundation or Children’s Christian Fund from where we adopted a young boy in need as Paul’s last request for a Christmas gift. His full-bodied laugh and gentleness will be missed. Please contact the family for funeral details (to be held later this week).
