July 18, 1936 ~ September 11, 2017

Ruth Heatherington passed away peacefully on September 11, 2017 in Chilliwack at the age of 81. Ruth and her brother Don grew up in a large family when her parents, George and Jean Preston, fostered 50 disabled children in addition to their own children.

After earning a teaching degree, Ruth started her married life by moving several times across BC due to her husband, Skip's employment with the CPR.

Once finally settled in Mission for 46 years, she raised her family and worked with the mentally challenged, raising funds by her annual plant sale each Mother's Day. She was also a member of the Order of Royal Purple (OORP) where she helped with catering and other community service. She was honored as "Woman of the Year" for her lifestyle of service to others. She also worked numerous years as a chef in Pleasant View Care Home. After she retired in 2011, she moved to Chilliwack to start a new chapter in her life.

Ruth is lovingly remembered by her children Bev (Dave), Ted, Kathy (Glen); brothers Scott, Pat and Mike; grandchildren Michelle (Matt), Jackie (Phil), Bonnie (Mike) and Eric; great grandchildren Julie, Alayna, Marshall, Ethan, Cole, Sadie and Cruz. She is predeceased by her husband Skip; children Geordie, Catherine, and Bill; grandson Will and brother Don.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 16, 2017 in the Clubhouse at 45918 Knight Rd, Chilliwack.
