SCHMIDT; Selma

On November 15, 2015, our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Selma Schmidt was called home to her Lord and Saviour and is now singing with the angels. Selma was born December 29, 1919, in Borden, Saskatchewan, to Gerhard and Maria Derksen, the only daughter among four boys. She moved to Yarrow with her parents in 1944. Mom married our father, Adolf, in 1949 and together they raised seven children on several farms in Arnold. She and Dad retired to Clearbrook in 1974 and became faithful members of Bakerview MB Church. Service to her Lord was key to her life. She and Dad served as custodians of both the Arnold and Bakerview churches for many years. She also spent many years volunteering with MCC and Helping Hands, making countless blankets for shipment overseas. She also enjoyed singing, travelling and family dinners with her children and grandchildren. Selma was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Adolf (1990), her brothers Ernest, Henry and Otto and her son Walter (2012). She is survived by her brother, Reuben (Elizabeth) of Saskatoon; her children David (Diane) of Chilliwack, Linda of Kelowna, Albert (Susan) of Salmon Arm, John (Ruth) of Abbotsford, Esther (Jack) Hoekstra of Lumby and Anita (Johnny) Szabo of Abbotsford; daughter-in-law Kathy of Georgetown, ON; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a public viewing on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. We invite you to join the family for a Memorial Service on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Bakerview MB Church, 2285 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. Reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MCC or Helping Hands. Online condolences to the family may be made at:
