Barge loading facility better located above bridges

Editor, The Record:

Re: Barge loading initiative draws opposing views, July 18 edition.

I would not be adverse to log-barge loading in Mission as long as it was done in an environmentally friendly and non-obtrusive manner. Anything that removes trucks from the road is a good thing as long as it doesn't cause other problems.

However, the site for the log loading would have to be determined. Would it be situated above the bridges, say in Hatzic, where a log-sorting facility already exists so that loaded trucks would no longer be driving through downtown Mission? Or should it be located below the bridges where any chance of a collision with a bridge would be made academic?

Personally, I would prefer above the bridges so long as the safety of the bridges could be guaranteed.
