Letters to the Editor

LETTER: Christmas Bureau says thanks for the support

The Mission Christmas Bureau is well underway once again. We are expecting to help 1,500 Mission adults and children with over 600 hampers of food and gifts.

Thank you to those who brought donations to the wonderful parade and to Prospect Equipment and volunteers who collected the donations.

Thank you to Firehall 3 for a very successful Monday night, collecting food and cash donations. Thank you to Firehall 1 for collecting donations Thursday night and again for tonight, when they will be collecting in the Hillside Traditional School area.

Thank you to the Rotary Clubs for organizing the Carol Festival at the Clarke Theatre and for all who came and brought donations there as well.

The Festival of Trees will close on Saturday with a fun reading of “A Christmas Carol” and a visit by Santa. Thank you to everyone who brought trees and donations!

The Santa Trains are running Dec. 10 and 17. Bring a donation of a new gift or cash donation to receive a return ticket on that Saturday.

Christmas at the Clarke will be Dec. 14 and will be a great time for all who attend. Special thanks to John Agnew for producing this show and to those who will be performing. Tickets are still available.

Thank you to many others who are organizing different ways to collect donations for us. Thank you to those who have put up wish trees and those who are sponsoring families.

The Christmas Bureau will begin passing out hampers to scheduled clients on Dec. 12 and continue through to Dec. 23. We are still accepting registrations for families who need help, until Dec. 23 as well.

We have now received approximately $30,000 (25 per cent of our needed budget). Thank you to all who are yet to bring in your donations. Donations of cash are most useful at this point, but non-perishable food and new gift items are also very useful. Our wish list for gifts would include lots of teen items such as Axe products, makeup products, hoodies, and gift cards for movies, clothing and general stores. For the younger children, we are receiving lots of requests for Shopkins and Paw Patrol.

We are a program of Mission Community Services Society and want to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you at the Christmas Bureau in the Junction Mall, beside The Source.
