Chaplin named athlete of the year
A Mission gymnast earned athlete of the year at the Gymnastics B.C. awards in Burnaby, Oct. 20.
Twisters' Steven Chaplin, along with Chilliwack's Zachary Clay and Abbotsford's Nico Garfias, were each given the honour for earning the highest rank through points. Recipients must also show outstanding qualities as a leader, sportsperson and play fairly. Chaplin won the Richard Ikeda Award for Level 4/National Youth/National Open.
Sue Tyson, director of recreational gymnastics at Twisters, received the 2012 PLAY Gymnastics Coach of the Year Zone 3 award, given out to one coach per B.C. zone. The recipient must demonstrate a significant contribution to the development of both recreational gymnastics and their club. He or she must also demonstrate excellent coaching effectiveness, personal development and leadership.
