The Mission City Outlaws are welcoming a new bench boss for the upcoming season.
David Doucette will take over as head coach of the Outlaws, the team announced last Tuesday (April 30).
Doucette was most recently an assistant with the Grandview Steelers in the PJHL for two seasons after spending time with the Vancouver North East Chiefs of the BCEHL.
He comes to the Outlaws with over 15 years of coaching experience at different levels of hockey.
Doucette has already started his head coaching duties. The Outlaws hosted a Spring ID Camp last weekend (May 3-5) to identify talent.
“Derek is a relational coach and mentor. He brings a passionate coaching style with an emotional involvement and energy that will create a strong team atmosphere and culture. Furthermore, he has an innate ability to see and facilitate synergies between players to motivate and make them better,” Outlaws general manager Scott Farrell said in a news release.
“He brings coaching experience in the PJHL, along with relationships with many players across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. From year to year, we are always striving to improve and upgrade our organization and this year by hiring Derek Doucette as our head coach we strongly feel that we have done just that.”
The Outlaws announced on April 15 that they would be parting ways with head coach Richard Kimber, along with assistant coaches Jake Ebner and Justin Wise.
“We want to thank them for their contributions to the club this past season and wish them all the best in their future endeavours,” the team said in the announcement.
Mission will bring back former netminder Brian Dale as goalie coach for the 2024/2025 season.
The Outlaws say further announcements about additions to the coaching staff and a new player development coach will come shortly.
