The future is bright for the Mission Twins 15U AA baseball club.

Despite having nine first-year players on their 11-player roster, the Twins finished fifth in the pool at the provincials in Victoria last weekend to cap off a successful season.

The Twins qualified for the provincial tournament in dramatic fashion at the BC 15U AA wildcard event, which was hosted in Mission on July 21 to 23.

Competing against teams from North Langley, Aldergrove, Vernon and Cloverdale, the Twins won their pool and punched their ticket to the provincials with a 12-5 win over the Vancouver Community Vipers. Mission compiled an impressive record of four wins and one loss at the wild card event, outscoring the opposition 58-32.

The Twins battled in a group with teams from Ladner, Tri-Cities, Victoria, Prince George and Delta, putting together a record of one win and three losses.

Mission placed fifth in their pool at the provincials, which was quite the accomplishment for this very young team,” stated Steve Bryan, the communications director for the Mission Sports Council. “Although they did not win a medal, this team deserves the pride of Mission. Regardless if they won or lost, they never lost sight of the true meaning of being a youth sport team.”
