Williams, a Hatzic Secondary grad, was named a PacWest academic excellence award winner.

The award takes into account academic performance from the 2015-16 school year, along with the 2016 fall semester. Williams and men’s players Dan Tang and Joel Kleingeltink all posted GPAs exceeding 3.5 in all three semesters.

To be recognized, a student-athlete must have achieved honours standing or equivalent at their institution over the course of a set number of months enrolled at their institution.

Cumulative GPA was based on the previous year’s courses along with those completed in the September-to-December semester, and students must have taken a minimum of 27 credits. Successful candidates must meet sport-specific criteria in order to be awarded with this honour. The award was first introduced in the 1992-93 athletic season.

“It’s always exciting to see our athletes recognized for their academic achievements,” said Steve Tuckwood, UFV director of athletics and campus recreation. “It shows commitment to their sport and their studies.”

Williams and the Cascades women’s volleyball team finished fifth in the conference during the PacWest regular season, and were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
