When her name was announced, the shock on Jamie Hayes’ face was plain to see.
Hayes, a multi-media advertising consultant for the Mission Record won the Online Advertising Award, for her Goody Too Shoes online campaign, during the B.C. Yukon Community NewsMedia Association’s (BCYCNA), Ma Murray awards held on May 14 at the River Rock Casino in Richmond.
It was Hayes first time at the awards gala and her first ever win.
“I was very surprised,” she said matter-of-factly. “I did not expect to win at all because the two other publications that were nominated are incredible.”
She said it was nerve-wracking walking up to the stage, but as she got closer it just became exciting.
What made the award even more satisfying was the fact that Goody Too Shoes was one of the downtown Mission businesses devastated by a fire two years ago.
“She had to get new stock and find a new location,” explained Hayes adding that it is hard enough to run a business during COVID, let alone dealing with the fire.
“When it came time to advertise she came to me. I wanted to help.”
Hayes said when she designed the ad, she wanted to catch the reader’s eye and to convey the uniqueness of the store.
The judges seemed to agree as they wrote “Clean, attractive layout that works with all ad formats. Clear messaging and a good selection of rotating images.”
