The Mission Safeway is officially closed.

On Thursday, July 5, the store saw its last customers go through the doors.

On Friday, crews were already on scene, taking down the Safeway logo from the building.

It is still not clear what will happen at the now vacant location.

Several Safeway stores were scheduled to close in July, according to parent company Sobeys.

Sobeys wants to close five stores and reopen them as FreshCo, citing a growing demand for discount grocery stores.

Mission is one of the locations that was being discussed for a Freshco, but nothing has been officially announced at this time.

The following Safeway locations are now closed:

• Mission

• Lougheed Mall, Burnaby

• City Square, Vancouver (July 28)

• Sunwood Square, Coquitlam

• Point Grey, Vancouver

• Royal Oak, Burnaby

• Blundell, Richmond

• Broadmoor, Richmond

• Newton Town Center, Surrey

• Strawberry Hills, Surrey
